Harding (Chester) is born in Conway, Massachusetts.

Chester Harding lives in Boston briefly, then studies in England, before returning to Boston in 1826. He lives at 16 Beacon Street from 1827 to 1830. Harding succeeds Gilbert Stuart as the most popular portrait painter in Boston. He dies on April 1, 1866, and is buried in Springfield.
